BGCO received $5,000 in funding from San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) to support the STREAMing Ahead program during the summer. This program is designed to develop a greater interest and appreciation for the world of science, technology, research, engineering, the arts, and math (STREAM) in the lives of BGCO campers.

With the grant funds, BGCO will enhance STREAMing Ahead with educational field trips and engagements with collaborating organizations. Partnerships with Women in Aviation, Cox Communications, UC Irvine STEM Network and Salk Institute, to name a few, enable BGCO to craft exceptional educational experiences for their campers.IMG_2872

These out the classroom learning experiences are an integral part to STREAMing Ahead, especially during the summer. By providing summer campers with STREAMing Ahead programming BGCO has an enormous opportunity to prevent significant summer learning loss, which is a very real side effect of summer vacation. Research shows that most students lose “two months of grade-level equivalency” in math skills every summer. And with grant funds BGCO is able to implement creative ways to combat Summer Learning Loss.

“We are committed to providing our summer campers with unique experiences that are engaging and educationally enriching, in order to give them a head start in the new school year” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
