Congratulations to Julie Hernandez, the 2016-2017 Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside Youth of the Year representative! Julie, who also won this honor last year, has been a Club member for six and a half years and recently graduated from El Camino High School with a 4.6 Grade Point Average. Julie plans to attend MiraCosta College in the fall, and after two years continue to University of California, Berkeley. “Along with her academic accomplishments, Julie’s authenticity, perseverance, and commitment to serving others makes her a wonderful role model, so befitting the Youth of the Year title,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.

As Oceanside’s Youth of the Year, Julie will compete among the 9 other Boys & Girls Clubs representatives for San Diego County Youth of the Year title. The San Diego County representative will then move on to compete at a regional and potentially national level to represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Last Year, Julie was named the San Diego County Youth of the Year and is honored to have the opportunity to compete again.

Youth of the Year is a national Boys & Girls Clubs of America program. Since 1947 this has been the premier recognition program for Clubs, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club teens. Club members who earn the Youth of the Year title embody the values of leadership and service; academic excellence; and healthy life styles. They exemplify the critical impact that Boys & Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people.
