On Friday, June 17th, members from the Elks Lodge 1561 presented Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) with $2,000 worth of educational supplies and equipment to be used towards cooking, science and arts programs. Supplies donated include: a Kitchen Aid Food Processor, Kid Safe Knife Sets, Cookware Set, Mixing Bowl Sets, Owl Science Kits, CSI Science Kits, Microscope Kits, Fossil Find Kit, Art Supplies and a 3D Printer.

These much needed supplies, purchased with funds from an Elks Gratitude Grant, will help to prevent summer learning loss in the 500 youth BGCO serves throughout the summer months. Summer learning loss is a very real side effect of summer vacation. Research shows that most students lose “two months of grade-level equivalency” in math skills every summer. The significant loss of skills and knowledge during the summer affects all children, but most especially low income youth.

“By providing supplies and equipment, the Elks Lodge will ensure that children at BGCO do not suffer from summer learning loss. They will have an educationally enriching summer and a head start in the new school year. What a wonderful way to kick off camp!” says Jodi Diamond, CEO.
